Food Pantry

The church supports the local Saranac Lake Interfaith Food Pantry, located at 15 Bloomingdale Avenue (state Route 3) near the corner of Church Street in Saranac Lake, through regular and special collections of non-parishable food. Donations may be left in the side entrance to the church on any Sunday morning.
In addition, funds are raised to fight hunger through the annual CROP Walk (link), held in mid-October. Of the $2,987 raised in October 2009, 25 percent was donated to the local food pantry and the remainder benefitted Church World Service programs address global hunger. Church members volunteer at the local foof pantry, and half of a "2 cents a meal" offering goes to the food pantry and half goes to MINC (Ministry in the North Country)(no link until PNNY site has better info).

Through the Presbytery of Northern New York, the church supports mission projects in one of Africa's poorest countries, Malawi. The Mzuzu Youth Choir performed a concert at the church in the summer of 2007 and stayed with church families, during a month-long tour of Northern New York and Vermont.
Pastors and lay persons from the North Country have made mission trips to Malawi, and former Plattsburgh pastor Rev. Paul Heller and his wife Darlene are currently running a crisis-care nursery in Malawi. For more information, see their blog, Suffer the Little Children (link). (other links on PNNY site)
The church has donated bed nets to combat malaria and made contributions that enable the purchase and installation of shallow wells to provide safe drinking water. Duane Keith Gould performed a concert of Celtic music on the theme of pilgrimage to benefit the shallow-well program in March of 2009.
